So many women made room on their Christmas calendars for their neighbors! They shared their hopes – and, yes, their fears – in our private Facebook group for Neighborhood Cafe Hostesses, where we share encouragement, advice, praises and prayer needs. Here are a few of their best practices and tips on what’s working in their neighborhoods to give you ideas and vision for your own community.

Open Houses Open Hearts

A Hostess from Minnesota…

“I was very encouraged as I talked to one neighbor, who last summer was very non-trusting of people and even had a ‘Keep Out’ sign on her house. I have connected several times with her in the store, where she works, brought a meal over, and some cookies, and we invited them to supper last summer. When I shared with her this week that I was hosting this open house to get to know my neighbors, her eyes lit up and she was very open to coming… I can see how this works to ‘win’ people to Christ. We will keep loving on our neighbors, and that sweet fragrance will come out eventually. Thanks for all your helps! The kit is great!”

A Hostess from Iowa…

“I usually stress about these things but that whole day as I completed the last minute details I was relaxed, ready to enjoy my neighbors, and had a great sense of peace that God would be in control of whatever happened that evening. Earlier that day I got three phone calls from gals that couldn’t come to the Open House but wanted to come at our next get together in January. That night, 10 new friends ventured out in the icy cold night and knocked on my door. Such a blessing – I look forward to getting to know them better in the months ahead. Thank you again, Amy, for providing this wonderful blueprint. Your materials gave me the courage I needed to get started. I’ve already sent out my Thinking of You cards. The plan is to meet every other Monday night beginning January 13. May Gods will be accomplished and the glory and honor be His.”

A Hostess from Virginia…

“I want you to know that your encouragement and God’s leading has caused my husband and I to have a neighborhood open house on the 22nd. Please pray for warmed hearts and good attendance.”

A Hostess from Ohio…

“I really appreciate your prayers. I had three adults and one child [at my Open House]. None of us knew the other. This was totally a cold call when I delivered the invitations. So I was pleased. Now we know each other. Three are evangelicals and one Catholic. I had plenty of food. I sent them home with a Christmas mug filled with hot chocolate mix, instant coffee bag and a tea bag and candy cane, wrapped in plastic with a recipe attached. One lady said we will have to do this again. And all the ladies did bring their own mug. Thanks for the idea. I asked them to bring pictures and be prepared to brag and to share a favorite Christmas memory. They came about 2:15 and stayed and stayed until about 4:00. Amy, I am really not sure where to go from here. I guess I am just starting to build relationships.”
