How’s Your Heart Before the Holidays?

Hello, friend.

If you’ve wondered where I’ve been lately, the short answer is: everywhere.

This year, I’ve been busy living the stories that happen off the page. It has been a year of overflowing joy, overfull calendars, and major milestones:

  • Jan: Celebrated my amazing mother-in-law’s 90th birthday

  • May: 35th anniversary trip to Europe (soon to be featured in the New York Times!)

  • Aug: Helped my parents move

  • Nov: Our daughter got married! We have a new son-in-law!

  • Dec: Coordinating our move to Florida

On top of the family joy, I’ve been deep in the trenches of my Master’s program at Asbury Theological Seminary. I’m on track to graduate this coming May, so my “free time” has been filled with theology, term papers, and studying the Word.

It hasn’t been a chaotic silence; it’s been a holy one.

A Gentle Gift Idea for a Heavy Season

As we head into Advent, I know the holidays aren’t purely joyful for everyone. For many, this season highlights what is missing.

If you are looking for a meaningful gift for a friend who is hurting—or maybe you need a little encouragement yourself—I’d love to recommend my book, Can I Borrow a Cup of Hope?

It’s not just a book; it’s a companion for anyone asking God hard questions right now. It’s about finding the grit and grace to keep going when your own supply of hope is running low.

Finally, because I can’t help but talk about loving our neighbors, I want to make sure you’re equipped for December.

Christmas is the easiest, most natural time to connect with the people living right next door. I’ve put together a collection of free resources—invitations, recipes, and simple ideas—to help you celebrate with your neighbors without the stress.

You don’t need to host a gala; sometimes you just need a reason to say “Merry Christmas.”

Thank you for sticking with me through the quiet seasons. I’m praying that your Advent is filled with the same hope we write and read about.

Merry Christmas to you and your neighbors!
