I love the little “More Info” buttons on websites. I’m usually the one who clicks to find out all the details, because I need all the information I can get before I make a decision.

Moses asked God for “More Info,” too. You’ll find his request in Exodus 33:12-13.

^12-13 Moses said to God, “Look, you tell me, ‘Lead this people,’ but you don’t let me know whom you’re going to send with me. You tell me, ‘I know you well and you are special to me.’ If I am so special to you, let me in on your plans. That way, I will continue being special to you. Don’t forget, this is your people, your responsibility.” (The Message)

I wanted “More Info” when I started the first Neighborhood Cafe.

“OK, Lord–you’ve been telling me to invite my neighbors over for coffee. But you haven’t told me who will come. What if no one shows up? What if everyone shows up? If it’s true that you want me to do this, just let me know how You’re gonna make it happen. I’ll have a lot more fun if I understand what You’re up to.”

God didn’t give me “More Info.” There was no miraculous vision of my living room filled with lovely women. There was no download telling me about Linda, Nancy, Mary Ann, Vanessa, Mary Sharon, Danielle, Sheila, Nita and Becky–strangers who would become my dear friends. And if He had told me this crazy idea would one day become a ministry that helped women all over the country love their neighbors, I probably would have run the other way. He revealed His plan slowly, step by step, as I obeyed one little bit at a time. And He was with me every time I knocked on a neighbor’s door and invited her over for coffee–just like He was with Moses in Exodus 33:14.

God said, “My presence will go with you. I’ll see the journey to the end.”

Our neighbors are His people, His responsibility. He stepped down from heaven to save her, all we have to do is walk across the street to meet her! He will go with you, and so will I.
